I was spending $8 a week on fresh herbs before my roommate called me out

I bought a little pack of cilantro every single grocery trip for my taco nights, which added up fast. My roommate saw me toss half a wilted bunch and asked why I didn't just grow a plant. I got a $3 starter pot from the garden store, stuck it on the windowsill, and now I just snip what I need. Who else has a simple swap that cut a dumb weekly cost?

Got me wondering if saving five bucks a week is even a win. Like, you spent time and money on soil and a pot, you gotta remember to water it, and then you're stuck with a whole cilantro plant to use up before it bolts. Sometimes the dumb cost is just the price of convenience. Buying the small pack might be the smarter move if you actually value your time more.

Honestly ray356, I get where you're coming from but I totally disagree. Tbh, growing a few herbs saves way more than five bucks if you cook a lot. You just snip what you need and it grows back, so no waste. Ngl, the time spent is like two minutes a day, and a bag of soil lasts forever. Buying those tiny packs every week feels like a bigger hassle to me.

Read a thing about how most herbs from the store are grown for looks, not flavor, so you end up using more. My basil plant tastes way stronger, so a few leaves actually does the job. That alone makes it worth the windowsill space for me.
