I finally cracked the code on cheap frozen veggies

Went to the Aldi on Broadway last Tuesday and noticed their frozen broccoli bags were almost half the price of the fresh stuff in the produce aisle. I grabbed three bags, tossed them into a stir fry, and honestly couldn't tell the difference. Anyone else find a produce hack that actually works without breaking the bank?

Oh man, the frozen vs. fresh debate is real, and you're absolutely right about Aldi's frozen broccoli. I've been doing this for years (like since 2019 when I first realized I was throwing away half my fresh produce every week). The trick is to check the bags for ice crystals before you buy them - if there's a lot of frost, they've been thawed and refrozen and the texture gets weird. Also, the frozen spinach is a lifesaver for smoothies and soups because you just toss it in straight from the freezer. The only thing I won't buy frozen is mushrooms, they turn into sad rubbery discs no matter what you do.

Wait, you've actually found a bag of frozen mushrooms that wasn't terrible? I gave up on them back in 2017 after three different brands turned into little rubbery hockey pucks in my stir fry. The texture is just not right no matter how you cook them. Fresh mushrooms are one of those things where I'll pay the extra dollar because the frozen ones really do get that weird spongy feel when they thaw out.
