That lady in my book club who insisted the author was secretly writing about her own divorce
We were reading this thriller last month and one member kept saying the main character's struggles were clearly based on the author's real marriage ending. Turns out the author has been married for 30 years and the lady just projected her own divorce onto the whole book. It was awkward when someone actually looked up the author's bio during the meeting. Has anyone else had a book club member try to read their personal life into every plot twist?

Projecting your own life onto fiction is one thing, but calling out the author by name and insisting it's a secret biography is a whole other level of awkward... Did anyone try to gently redirect the conversation, or did it just turn into that one lady's therapy session for the whole hour? I'm curious if she got defensive when the bio didn't match up, or if she just doubled down and said the author was "in denial" about her own marriage. That kind of behavior usually comes from someone who can't separate fiction from reality at all, and it kind of ruins the fun for everyone else.

She doubled down and said the author was in denial. Actually used those exact words. I almost choked on my coffee when she said that. The whole room went dead silent for like ten seconds. Someone even pulled up the author's husband's Instagram to prove they were still together and happy. She just waved her hand and said social media is fake anyway.
