My fancy book club snacks turned into a science experiment gone wrong

So I volunteered to bring snacks for our monthly book club meeting last Tuesday. I tried to make these cute little puff pastry bites with brie and jam that I saw on Pinterest. Well, I forgot to check the oven temperature and they came out as blackened, goopy messes that smelled like burnt tires. Ended up just grabbing a bag of chips and a tub of hummus from the gas station on the way. Has anyone else had a Pinterest recipe totally backfire on them during a book club event?

Pinterest recipes are basically life's way of reminding us real life isn't curated.

A buddy of mine @the_jana tried a Pinterest cake recipe and ended up with soup in a pan.

Oh man, that really stinks! I used to think Pinterest recipes were foolproof because the pictures look so perfect, but then I tried making those matcha energy balls and they turned into green dust in my hands. Actually had to scrape them off the counter and just eat the sad crumbles. @the_jana totally nailed it with that comment about real life not being curated - my fancy snacks were way more like a cautionary tale than a tasty treat. Gas station chips are an honest backup plan though, I've definitely done that more times than I care to admit.
