My uncle's advice about haggling at flea markets was dead wrong
At the Raleigh flea market last summer, my uncle Bob told me to always offer half of what they ask. I tried it on a vintage lamp marked $60, offered $30, and the lady just said 'no thanks' and walked away. Later I saw another guy buy the same lamp for $55 after a friendly chat with her. Has anyone else had a negotiating tactic totally backfire on them?

Bro I did the exact same thing with a toolbox and got completely shut down too.

Haha yeah "got completely shut down" is the perfect way to put it. I tried convincing my buddy to let me borrow his nice socket set once, gave him every reason I could think of, and he just looked at me and said "nope" and walked away. It's like there's some unspoken rule you find out about the hard way. I swear half the stuff I own is just me buying my own version of something someone wouldn't lend me. Your mileage may vary but in my experience if you don't have it yourself, you're just out of luck.
