Vent: My quench oil was cracking every blade I made.

Heating it up a little... finally got things to turn out right.

Remember when my buddy was ready to quit bladesmithing? His oil was too cold, straight from the garage in winter. Every single knife came out with little lines, went to junk. He stuck the whole container in a bucket of hot water, got it real warm, not crazy hot. Next blade was perfect. Just that little bit of heat made all the difference.

Classic case of almost giving up right before the easy fix. Your buddy must've felt pretty silly after realizing garage oil moves like cold molasses. Sometimes the solution is literally heating up a bucket of water.

That reminds me of my grandpa's old truck oil in the shed.
