Serious question, I had to pick between a new propane forge or a bigger anvil for my shop.
I saved up $800 and went with the NC Whisper Daddy propane forge because my old coal setup was getting too smoky for my garage space. It heats up fast and is cleaner, but I miss the fine control I had with coal for detailed scrollwork. Do you think I made the right call, or should I have gotten that 150 lb Peter Wright anvil instead?

Consider the noise too. A quiet forge lets you work later without annoying the neighbors, which is huge for garage shops.

Totally agree with @wadew51 on the noise thing. Read a forum post where a guy had to stop forging at 7pm because of complaints. A quiet setup seems like a game changer for sure.

Remember my buddy who switched to gas for the same reason. He ended up building a small coal forge just for scroll days. The right tool for the job changes with the job.
