Wait, you think pretending you're not crying actually helps? I used to do that too until I realized it makes it worse.

Funny thing is, the opposite works for me sometimes. If I let a few tears leak out at a wedding or a sad movie, it actually stops the flood. Pretending I'm fine is like holding a beach ball underwater, it just pops up harder later. Maybe it's about timing, like you can't fake it for hours but a quick 'nope not crying' in the moment can reset your brain. Guess it depends on the person and the day.

I mean, totally agree with you here. It's like your brain knows you're lying to it and just gets more upset. I've tried the whole 'I'm fine' thing so many times and it never works, I just end up with a headache and still crying later. Maybe it works for some people in the moment, but for me it's just delaying the inevitable meltdown. Letting it out right away feels way cleaner, even if it's embarrassing.
