I recorded my grandma's stories on my phone last Christmas

I thought it would just be a nice thing to have, but hearing her talk about growing up in rural Kansas in the 1930s completely changed how I see my family. We have this recording of her laughing about trading a single egg for a ride to town. Has anyone else done something similar and had it hit them way harder than expected?

Wish I'd done that before mine passed.

Sometimes we're too hard on ourselves about what we didn't do. Our pets knew they were loved, and that's what really matters in the end. Focusing on the good times you had together is more helpful than regretting one thing. They wouldn't want you to carry that guilt. What was your pet's favorite thing to do?

Remember the good times, not the one thing you missed.

Look at it from their point of view... they spent their whole life with you, not that one moment. They probably forgot about it five minutes later while waiting for dinner. We hold onto our guilt way longer than they ever held onto any small thing we did or didn't do. It's our memory that's cruel, not theirs. They just remember the person who was always there.
