Am I the only one who thinks organizing digital photos is harder than it needs to be?

I spent three whole evenings trying to sort my photo library from 2018 to 2022. Everyone says to just use tags or albums, but I have 14,000 pictures and the software kept duplicating files. After two failed attempts with different programs, I ended up manually moving folders on an external drive. It took me about 18 hours total, which is ridiculous for something that should be simple. Has anyone else found a tool that actually handles large batches without messing things up?

Oh man, I feel your pain so much! My photo library is a hot mess from 2015 to now and I've tried three different programs that just made duplicates everywhere. Google Photos kept creating copies of everything when I tried to organize by year and then by event, so I ended up with like 30,000 files instead of 15,000. Finally gave up and just dumped everything into one big folder on an external drive sorted by month and year manually. Took me a whole weekend and my wrist still hurts from all that clicking and dragging.

Wait @hill.margaret wouldn't an automated tool save you time just by sorting files by date taken?

Took me a whole weekend and my wrist still hurts" - come on now lol. You're telling me you sat there for two days straight clicking folders and sorting photos like it's 2005? That's a you problem, not a tech problem. I mean its literally just pictures on a hard drive. If theyre all in one big folder whats the actual difference if theyre sorted by date or not? Your computer doesnt care and you probably just scroll through them anyways. Sounds like you made it way harder than it needed to be for no real reason.
