My bank's app update broke my automatic bill pay last Friday

I set up everything to pay my rent and utilities automatically through my bank's app. Last Friday, right after they pushed a new update, the whole system just stopped. My rent check to my landlord in Austin never went out. I only found out because my landlord texted me asking about it. I spent over an hour on hold with customer service, and the rep basically said the new version had a bug that wiped some scheduled payments. I had to manually send a wire transfer, which cost me a $25 fee. The whole thing was a huge hassle and made me late. Has anyone else's bank had a major app update mess up their automated stuff like this?

That exact thing happened with my credit union last year. Their big "security upgrade" somehow dropped all my external payee info. It was a total nightmare for two billing cycles. The worst part was they acted like it was a surprise, but online forums were full of people with the same problem. Makes you wonder what they test before hitting the update button.

Makes you wonder what they test" is the whole problem. It feels like every company now treats its customers like the test group. They just push out half-finished updates and let us find the bugs for them.

Saw a tech writer call this the "release now, fix later" model. It's basically the new normal for software, even for important stuff like banking apps. Really feels like we're all unpaid QA testers these days.
