Hot take: Venmo for business payments actually works now

I run a small landscaping crew in Phoenix and always thought Venmo was just for splitting pizza money, not for getting paid $800 for a backyard job. Then last month a client insisted on paying through Venmo Business and I gave it a shot - the payment cleared in like 2 minutes with no fees eating into it. Anyone else find a new payment tool that surprised you after you finally tried it?

Tbh the real surprise for me was finding out Square works way better for random side gigs than I ever gave it credit for. A neighbor rented out her guest house on Airbnb and the cleaner they hired wanted payment through Square - we're talking a $250 deep clean. I was skeptical because Square always felt like it was for like food trucks and craft fairs, but the payment processed before the cleaner even finished packing up their supplies. No fees, no weird holds, just straight money in the account. Venmo turned out solid for you, but Square caught me totally off guard because I always wrote it off as overcomplicated for small stuff like that.

Man, I don't know. $250 deep clean and it processed that fast with no fees? That sounds almost too good to be true honestly. I've had Square hold funds on like a $40 lawn mowing job for three days before (they claimed "verification" issues) so I'm always a little wary when people say it's flawless. Maybe it's gotten better but I'm not ready to trust it for anything over like $100 yet.

Wait, is that actually a thing now? I remember trying Venmo for a couch I sold back in 2020 and it took three days to clear and I got hit with like $15 in fees. Feels like they finally got their act together if it's working for you on bigger amounts. I had a similar surprise with Cash App last year when I bought a used truck and the seller wanted payment that way. Figured it would be a hassle but it went through instantly and I was honestly weirdly annoyed that I'd been avoiding it for no reason.
