Finally got my business account's cash flow alerts set up right

I run a small landscaping company and was always scrambling to check if we had enough to cover payroll. Last month, I sat down and set a custom alert in my online banking for when the balance drops below $5,000. It texts me instantly. It's saved me from two last-minute transfers already. How do you guys handle keeping an eye on your business cash without checking it ten times a day?

My old bookkeeper made me set up a separate checking account just for tax money. It sounds extra, but having that pot completely off limits means I never accidentally spend what I owe the IRS. I have a set transfer go in every Friday, and I don't even look at that account balance unless it's quarter end. It takes one big worry off the table.

Isn't that basically just a savings account with extra steps?

Ever think about how we used to just use cash envelopes for stuff like that? My grandma did that for her Christmas fund... just an old cookie tin in the cupboard. It worked because you couldn't spend what you couldn't see.
