My grandma's bread recipe called for a warm spot. I use my oven light now.

Back in the day, she'd wrap the bowl in towels near the radiator. It was hard to keep the heat just right. Now, I just turn on the oven light and leave the dough inside. This gives a constant warm place for the dough to rise. No more cold kitchens or overproofed loaves.

That oven light trick is genius. My kitchen is always drafty, so I started doing that last winter... total game changer for my rolls. Never going back to towels on the radiator.

What about warming your mixing bowl before making dough? My grandma taught me to fill it with hot water while gathering ingredients, then dry it fast. That little bit of heat gives the yeast a much better start in a chilly kitchen.

Wow, your grandma really went the extra mile with the hot water trick! I just leave my bowl on the counter and hope for the best. Honestly, the idea of filling and drying it every single time feels like a whole extra step I would never remember to do.

My old oven's light bulb died, so I started using @mary414's trick with a heating pad instead.
