Overheard my neighbor say slow cookers are just for people who can't cook

I was out watering my plants last Tuesday when my neighbor's friend said slow cookers are for lazy cooks who don't understand heat control. That made me think back to the 90s when everyone in my family had a Crock-Pot on the counter and nobody questioned it. Has anyone else caught themselves getting defensive about old kitchen tools that actually worked fine?

My aunt Betty got a Crock-Pot as a wedding gift in 1978 and used it until the handle literally fell off last year. She could cook circles around anyone in our family. People who say slow cookers are for bad cooks probably never had a pot roast that fell apart with a fork after sitting all day. I got defensive about my own rice cooker last month when my brother in law said it was just a pointless gadget. I told him I use it three times a week and it never burns anything. Old kitchen tools worked fine for generations and I don't get why people feel the need to judge.

Question is, does it really matter what someone thinks about your kitchen stuff?
