PSA: That fancy raised bed kit I bought last spring was a total waste

I spent $300 on a cedar raised bed kit from a big box store in June. By August the corners were splitting and the bottom boards started rotting out. My neighbor built his own with $60 worth of lumber from a local mill and his still looks brand new after two years. Anybody else find that the premade kits fall apart faster than building your own?

Did the kit come with a free lifetime supply of frustration or did you have to pay extra for that?

Used to think cheap tool kits were fine for basic stuff around the house. This thing proved me wrong real quick.

Does that mean the screwdriver set I got for $10 at the hardware store is actually decent, or am I just lucky so far? I've had good luck with cheap kits for light stuff, but maybe I'm not pushing them hard enough yet. @linda_dixon49 nailed it with that joke though... frustration is definitely part of the package sometimes.
