My paver base took three weekends to get right
I started a small patio project with 50 square feet of pavers, but getting the gravel base level was way harder than I thought. The ground in my Atlanta yard had a slight slope I didn't notice at first. After two weekends of raking and re-leveling, I finally got it flat enough to start laying stones. What's the best way you've found to check for level on uneven ground?

My neighbor swears by a water level made from clear tubing. He fills it with colored water and marks the lines on stakes. Sounds old school, but he got his whole sloped driveway base perfect with it.

Way cheaper than a laser level" is just how a lot of old tools are.

Yeah but those water levels are no joke. @west.richard, my dad used that same trick when we built a shed on uneven ground. Just a hose and some food coloring. We ran it from the corner of the house to set the post heights. It was dead accurate over like fifty feet. Way cheaper than a laser level for a DIY job. Sometimes the old ways just work.
