Update: My contractor friend in Charlotte says everyone over-waters new sod for the first week, but the nursery sheet clearly says to keep it damp, not soaked.

I think drowning the roots causes more harm than letting them get a little thirsty, so what's your take on the soak vs. damp debate for new grass?

Honestly, that line about everyone over-watering new sod is so true for so many things. Tbh, people see a new thing and think more care equals better, but it just drowns it. I see it with houseplants all the time, people kill them with love by watering too much. The instructions say damp for a reason, the roots need air as much as water. It's a pattern of ignoring simple directions because we think we know better.

Totally. I read this article once about how over-parenting kids is basically the same thing. They called it helicopter parenting, but it's just drowning them in attention and rules instead of letting them breathe and figure stuff out. Same exact pattern, ignoring the simple need for space because we think more help is always better. Honestly it made me look at my own habits differently. We just get nervous and overdo it.

Yeah, @spencer_coleman, it's wild how that same fear makes us mess up with kids and plants.
