Rant: I used to just throw mulch down without prepping first
For years I'd buy bags of cedar mulch from Lowe's and spread it right over the weeds. Looked okay for a month then everything grew through. Last spring I finally pulled all the old mulch, put down landscape fabric, and added 3 inches of fresh stuff. Took a whole Saturday but it's held up for a year now with zero weeds popping through. Anybody else switch to doing it the harder way or you still just wing it like I used to?

Felt like I was doing the lords work there for a sec. But honestly, is it really that big of a deal if a few weeds pop through? I mean, it's the garden, not a hospital operating room. You pull a couple weeds here and there and it's fine. Plus that landscape fabric is a pain if you ever want to change things later, just saying.

That bindweed just laughs at fabric and comes up three feet away instead.

Kimr saying "a couple weeds here and there" sounds reasonable til you realize those couple weeds turn into a hundred if you just let them seed out. Ever had bindweed laugh at landscape fabric and punch right through it anyway?
