My uncle told me to skip the switchbacks on the High Sierra Trail

I tried his 'shortcut' near Hamilton Lakes and ended up sliding on loose scree, adding an extra hour to my day. Anyone have a favorite stretch of that trail that's actually worth a slight detour?

Did your uncle ever try that shortcut himself?

The view from Precipice Lake is worth every step.

Tell me he at least warned you about the loose rock on that slope. Did your uncle give any reason why he pushes that shortcut, like saving time on a specific section or is it just an old habit he won't drop?
