Saw a tech at the local parts store using a weird trick to seat a tire bead

I was grabbing a fuel filter in Phoenix yesterday and watched a guy in the parking lot struggling with a stubborn tire on a Jeep. He ended up using a ratchet strap around the tire's circumference and a quick shot of starting fluid to pop the bead into place, which I've never seen before. Is that a common method, or is it as sketchy as it looked to me?

Ngl, that's a legit old-school trick for a reason. It looks wild if you've never seen it, but it works when a regular bead blaster fails. The strap keeps the tire seated in the drop center so the flammable vapor can pop the bead up evenly. You just have to be careful with the amount of fluid. It's a standard field fix for off-roaders and farm equipment.

My old man taught me that trick on our farm in Texas.

So what's the right amount of fluid to use without it getting dangerous?
