The way people sand filler now makes me feel ancient
I was working on a 2002 F-150 last week and watched a younger guy go through three discs of 80 grit on a single small dent. Back when I started at a shop in Wichita in 1998, we were taught to knock down the high spots with a file before ever touching the DA. It saves material and keeps the shape more true. Anybody else notice the older methods getting skipped over these days?

Three discs of 80 grit on one dent on a 2002 F-150? That's wild man. A file knock-down would have taken maybe 10 minutes and saved all that paper. I feel like @ellis.faith is right about people treating sandpaper like it's free, but even then it's a waste of time and money. Back in the day we made a single disc last through a whole quarter panel if we worked smart. These kids don't learn the basics, they just run the DA until the paper's dust.

Wait is sandpaper not supposed to cover the whole garage floor or is that just me going through a pack a week?
