Finally got the right exposure for the Orion Nebula after three tries

Kept seeing people say you need a 30 second exposure, but that just blew out the core for me. I found 15 seconds at ISO 1600 from my backyard in Tucson gave way more detail. What's your go-to setting for bright nebulae?

Honestly that 30-second advice is way too general and depends a lot on light pollution. Your 15-second shot makes total sense for a bright target from a decently dark site. Finding what works for your own gear and sky is always the move.

Oh man, my buddy had the same thing happen with his new tracker... he was so mad when all his long shots were just white blobs.

Yeah, I had to drop to 10 seconds, @the_wesley is right about finding your own sweet spot.
