Heard a young guy at the supply yard call a pruning saw a 'tree knife'
It took me back to my first boss, who would spend a whole afternoon just teaching us the right names for every tool in the truck. Made me wonder if that kind of hands-on teaching is getting lost with all the new gear and quick videos online. Do you still make a point to teach the old terms to new climbers?

That old-school knowledge is pure gold.

Learned more from my grandpa in the garage than any manual.

Honestly, calling it a tree knife is kind of hilarious, like something a kid would make up. But it does show a real gap in basic know-how. I get that videos are fast, but they skip the why behind the what. If you don't learn the right name, you probably never learned what it actually does or when to use it. That hands-on teaching sticks with you way longer than any two-minute clip. Letting that stuff fade just means more people who own tools but have no idea how to work with them.
