I chose my career over my best friend when she moved to Seattle and I stayed.

I picked the job offer here because it felt safe, but I've spent the last 8 months writing her apology letters I'll never send for not being brave enough to go. Anyone else regret a choice that cost them a person?

It seemed silly at first, just writing letters. But putting my real regret into words made a big difference. It forced me to see things from the other side. Now I believe a real apology needs that kind of work. It's not about being right anymore.
