Apology letter to my college roommate from 8 years ago
I was talking to my sister last week about that time in 2016 when my roommate lent me her car and I scraped the side on a pole. I never really apologized properly back then, I just said sorry and we moved on. But hearing my sister tell the story from her side made me realize how much I downplayed it and how stressed my roommate must have felt. I wrote out a full letter last night explaining I was embarrassed and scared of the cost, not trying to be careless. Has anyone else revisited an old mistake and felt the need to apologize years later, even if the person might not care anymore?

8 years for a car scrape? That's dedication. You must have really needed closure.

Did you hear about my friend who accidentally backed into a neighbor's mailbox and just... never said anything for like five years? She finally left a note with cash under their door mat last Christmas, said she felt like she could finally sleep again. Sometimes you just gotta get that weight off your chest, no matter how late it is.

Whoa wait, you scraped the side of her car and just said sorry and moved on? That is wild to me. I had a friend borrow my car once and they came back with a dent in the bumper and barely mentioned it, and I was fuming for weeks. But I get it, being scared and embarrassed can freeze you up. Good for you for writing that letter though, sometimes you just need to clear the air for yourself even if it's been eight years.
