Been there, man. Our old One Piece crew almost died on the Thriller Bark filler. The trick is to have a backup plan ready to go. We made a rule that if three people wanted to skip, we'd just jump ahead and watch a movie instead. Saved the group when we hit the Rainbow Mist arc in Naruto. Sometimes you just gotta skip ahead and read a summary online to keep things moving.

But skipping all the filler feels like cheating to me. You miss out on the weird little moments that make watching together fun, even if the story drags. My group suffered through every episode of Naruto filler and we still joke about the curry of life arc. That shared pain is part of the memory now. If you just skip to the good stuff you lose the full, messy experience.

Man, that really sucks. Wesley_jones is right about the shared pain being part of the memory, but sometimes a filler arc is just too much. Did your group try to set any rules before it got bad?

We had a similar rule where two people could call for a skip vote. It kept things fair and stopped anyone from getting too upset. I get what wesley_jones is saying about the shared memories, but man, some of those filler arcs are just painful to sit through. Our group almost fell apart over the Naruto one where they just chase a lost pet for three episodes. Having that skip rule saved us from a lot of pointless arguments. What kind of backup shows did you guys switch to when you skipped?
