My manager's take on that popular shonen sparked a week-long debate.
Office politics and anime opinions should never mix, but they always do.

Have you ever noticed how the most harmless personal tastes can become these weirdly serious battlegrounds at work? Like, someone will defend their favorite brand of coffee in the break room with the same energy as a political debate. It feels like any shared space just turns small opinions into these big, weird tests of personality.

My last office had a two year war over the thermostat setting. It wasn't about fitting in at all, people were just genuinely too hot or too cold. Same with the big fight about which kind of communal stapler to buy. Sometimes it's not a test, it's just that sharing a small space makes tiny problems feel huge because you have to live with the result every single day.

Remember the great microwave cleaning war of 2019? Someone left a tiny splatter and it turned into passive aggressive notes, then a full chart on the fridge. You're right, it's the daily grind that does it. Being forced to use a wobbly stapler or shiver at your desk for years makes normal people lose their minds over stuff that shouldn't matter.

Did you catch that piece about trivial debates being linked to social bonding? It argued that people use these small fights to establish their place in the group. So it's not really about coffee, it's about fitting in.
