Had a pilot at a regional airport tell me 'it's just a little oil seep' about a gear strut
I was doing a walkaround on a King Air in Billings last month, and the pilot pointed at a wet line on the strut. He said it had been like that for a few flights and wasn't a big deal. I got my light and mirror out, and it was a crack in the seal housing, not just a seep. I mean, idk, maybe it's just me, but that phrase always makes me check twice now. Anyone else get that specific line thrown at them?

Always trust your gut when you hear that line. I had a customer say the same thing about a power steering leak on his truck, and it was a cracked line about to blow. That phrase is basically a red flag to look harder.

Come on, not every small leak is a ticking time bomb. Sometimes a drip is just a drip. My old jeep had a slow oil leak for years, just a few drops on the driveway, and it never got worse. People on a tight budget can't run to the shop for every tiny spot. Calling everything a red flag just causes panic over nothing.

Yeah that "it's just a small leak" line is how people talk themselves out of getting things checked before they're stranded.
