Blew a tire on a 737 at 2am in Detroit last winter
Was doing a brake swap on a 737-800 at DTW when the jack slipped and the whole tire assembly came crashing down. Has anyone else had a jack fail on them like that or was I just using the wrong lift point?

Hey, did you try reading the manual or just winging it like the rest of us? That sounds like a real rough night. At least the plane didn't catch fire, I guess?

Gotta push back a little here. I've seen too many people treat manuals like they're just for decoration, and then end up in way worse situations than a rough night. Reading the manual might not be fun but it can save your bacon if something goes sideways mid-flight. The whole "just wing it" attitude is how you miss a crucial checklist item, like forgetting to switch fuel tanks or something equally dumb. Fire or no fire, I'd rather be the guy who spent 20 minutes skimming the book than the one explaining to the FAA why my plane had an unscheduled landing in a field.

Pulled a manual out once, fell asleep reading it on page 2.
