Just realized how much work goes into a simple camping trip these days
I decided to go camping by the lake last weekend to unwind. Spent hours just packing the right gear and checking if my truck could handle the rough road. Had to call off a small job at my shop to make the time, which felt weird. It was worth it for the peace and quiet, but man, getting there was half the battle!

I hear you saying "getting there was half the battle," but that mindset might be the issue. All that packing and checking gear is part of the fun if you see it as getting ready for the adventure. It actually makes the peace and quiet feel more earned when you finally arrive.

Ever read that old camping quote about the trip starting when you begin packing your bag? It really stuck with me. That shift from seeing prep as a chore to seeing it as the first chapter of the story changes everything. You're right, it builds up the excitement and makes you pay attention to details you'd otherwise rush through. Then when you finally sit down at the campsite, your mind is already in that slower gear because you've been in adventure mode for hours. It turns the whole thing into one long experience instead of two separate parts.

My buddy forgot his tent poles last year... had to sleep under a tarp strung between two trees.

Tell me about it. Last time I went I had to check every piece of gear twice, plan all the meals, and still forgot the coffee. By the time I got the fire going I was already worn out from just getting ready. Felt like I needed a vacation from the vacation prep. You're right, the quiet is great but man you really have to fight for it sometimes.
