I finally counted the actual board feet in my 12x16 shed frame
I figured the lumber list would be around 900 board feet based on the plans, but after checking every stud, joist, and rafter it came to 1,142 and that made me rework my whole foundation spacing, has anyone else hit a number that forced them to redo their layout?
My shed came out to 1,038 board feet when the plans said 850, and that gap showed up in the floor joists mostly. I had drawn my piers every 4 feet, but the extra weight meant I needed them at 3 feet on the long walls or the rim would sag. What saved me was redoing the beam size before I dug anything, went from doubled 2x8 to a triple 2x10 and it cost me maybe 60 bucks extra. Digging the holes is the worst part so getting that spacing right up front is worth every minute of recounting.
