The coffee shop apology I can't shake after 8 months
I was at a busy cafe in Portland last March and told a barista her latte art looked like a squished bug, meant as a joke but it came out mean. Now I overthink every casual comment I make to strangers, wondering if they remember it years later. Do you think small rude moments linger for the other person or am I just carrying this alone?
Oh man... honestly? I think you're carrying this way more than she is. Think about it, she was working a busy shift in a packed cafe, probably made a hundred lattes that day. Some random joke about her art being a squished bug would just roll off. I worked food service in my early twenties and I couldn't tell you one rude thing a customer said, but I can still remember the guy who tipped me five bucks on a ten dollar order. The stuff that sticks is usually the good stuff, not some awkward comment. So yeah, maybe you were a little sharper than you meant to be, but eight months of guilt over a latte? That's all you, not her.
