TIL a podcast from my town changed how I see local stories

I used to skip local news, but now I'm hooked on our community podcast.

Wow, this totally mirrors how I notice we treat stuff in our own lives. I mean, we scroll past local fundraisers or town meetings without a second thought, but then a co-worker shares a story about how the new crosswalk saved her kid, and it just clicks. It's like our brains need that human touch to wake up to what's around us. We miss so much by always looking at the big, shiny things far away.

Honestly I was probably the last person to care about local stuff. But hearing real voices from my own neighborhood finally made it click for me. Now I feel kinda dumb for ignoring it all this time, what took me so long?

Thing is, we're all pumped full of big, flashy news from elsewhere, making local stuff seem dull. But those far-off stories don't fix the leaky roof at the town hall or the traffic jam by the school. Local issues need to be told through normal people's voices, not just city hall updates. We're all guilty of skipping over the close-to-home stuff until it bites us in the butt.
