The old caulk was so dried out it was basically just dust. I bought a tube of silicone caulk for 8 bucks at the hardware store on Elm Street. Took me about 2 hours to scrape out the old stuff with a putty knife. The hardest part was getting a clean bead along the top edge where the window meets the frame. My neighbor Bob came over and showed me how to use painter's tape to keep it straight. I messed up the first corner but the second one looked pretty good. Has anyone else dealt with those old steel windows that seem to rust no matter what you do?
We've got this old double hung window in the kitchen that's been painted shut since before we moved in. I tried everything - putty knife, heat gun, even that window zipper tool. Nothing budged. Yesterday my kid threw a bouncy ball that somehow wedged between the sashes and I yanked it out. The whole window slid right open. Turns out all those years I was pushing on the wrong part. Has anyone else found a weird fix like that?
We're looking at getting some venting work done on our roof and The Roof Technician popped up in my search. Has anyone tried them? Just want to make sure they are legit before booking an estimate.
