Just realized I used to track every single penny in a notebook

For about five years, I wrote down every coffee and gas fill-up in a little blue book, but it made me hate checking my money. Last fall I switched to just checking my bank app once a week and setting up two auto-transfers to savings, which feels way less stressful. Does anyone else think simple is better than perfect tracking?

My "perfect tracking" phase just made me really good at writing down how broke I was.

My buddy tried that envelope budgeting system last year. He had like twelve different categories for his $200 grocery budget. Ended up just staring at a spreadsheet full of ramen purchases.

Switched to one big spending category and stopped stressing over small purchases.
