I finally looked at the fees on my old 401k from a job I left in 2018. It was a gut punch.

Wait, you hadn't checked it since 2018? That's a long time for fees to just quietly chip away... It's crazy how they just let that happen in the background without a single notice. No wonder it felt like a gut punch.

Ugh, that's the worst feeling. It's like they set up all these systems to quietly drain money from us while we're not looking. I see it everywhere now, from bank account fees to those subscriptions that auto-renew. They count on us being too busy or tired to notice the small leaks, but it adds up to a flood for them.

Remember checking my first pay stub and seeing all the deductions. Felt like working a full shift for half the money. Makes you wonder who's really getting fed.
