My friend's prom dress from 2012 versus her wedding dress this year is a wild ride

She pulled out her old prom dress, this bright pink taffeta thing with a huge bow, and then showed me her simple, elegant silk wedding gown. The change from 'princess ball' to 'modern classic' over a decade is huge. What finally makes someone ditch the big statement pieces for clean lines?

It’s just growing up, not a deep mystery.

Right? Why do we always try to make it so complicated? I spent years thinking I had to find some big, hidden meaning in every little change. Turns out I just got tired of loud bars and started liking gardening. It's not a spiritual journey, it's just your taste in stuff changing because you've done the old stuff a thousand times. We just wear ourselves out on things and find new, quieter things to wear ourselves out on instead.

Stop trying to decode your own life like it's a puzzle. You liked partying, now you like plants. You watched all-night movies, now you fall asleep at ten. It's not a sign. It's just doing less of what drains you and more of what doesn't. The big secret is there is no secret, you just get older and your battery changes.
