Our family's worst money week - $2200 gone in 3 days
Last month we had a brutal stretch. Monday the car transmission blew - $1400. Tuesday my daughter's braces wire snapped, emergency orthodontist visit - $200. Wednesday our water heater started leaking, had to replace it - $600. The emergency fund took a huge hit. Has anyone else had a week where everything breaks at once?

I mean, at that point the universe is just picking a fight.

Yeah "picking a fight" is exactly how it feels sometimes. I had three separate things break in my house last month - the washer, the car battery, and my phone all within two weeks. @emerym36 it's like the universe has a checklist and it's just ticking things off for no reason. You start wondering if you did something to piss it off.

Take a deep breath and try not to panic, because I've been in your exact shoes before. When it rains it pours with these things, and the best thing you can do is accept it without getting too worked up. What helped me was keeping a separate savings account just for emergencies, even if it's only fifty bucks a month going in there. After a week like that, I'd also call around to a few different mechanics and plumbers to compare prices before committing to anything. Sometimes you can save a hundred bucks or more just by taking an extra hour to shop around. It's rough, but you'll rebuild that fund quicker than you think.
