The old coffee grinder finally gave up the ghost this morning

It was my grandma's, a simple hand crank model she bought in 1975. I've used it every morning for the last eight years, and the sound of the beans cracking was part of my routine. This morning, the handle just spun freely with a sad, hollow click. I stood there for a minute, holding it, and it hit me how much I'd miss that little bit of quiet work to start the day. Everything now is so fast and automatic, but that grinder made me slow down for two minutes. I ended up using the pre-ground stuff from the back of the cupboard, and it just tasted... flat. Has anyone else had a simple old thing break and realized it was holding a whole little ritual together?

Doesn't it feel like we're losing those small, mindful pauses that used to be built right into our day?

Absolutely. It's a real loss.
