Felt silly buying those expensive wool dryer balls instead of fabric softener sheets
My wife pushed me to get a set of 6 wool dryer balls for $25 after our second kid was born, and I figured it was just another eco-friendly gimmick that wouldn't work. But after three months now I've noticed our towels actually dry faster and I don't have that weird chemical smell on my t-shirts anymore. Has anyone else found that these things beat the softener sheets for real?

I got mine for $18 on Amazon and they've lasted over two years so far.

Did you buy a different brand than what most people are talking about here? Sometimes the cheap ones work fine if you get lucky with the batch.

Man that's wild. It's funny how sometimes the cheap stuff ends up being the real deal while the expensive name brand stuff falls apart. I've noticed that pattern with a lot of things honestly like kitchen tools or even clothes where you pay for the logo but the quality isn't there. Reminds me of how my grandpa used to say you can't judge something by its price tag, you gotta see how it holds up over time.

Honestly, I gotta push back on that a bit. Are you sure the cheap stuff is actually lasting as long as you think, or is it just that you haven't used it as hard? In my experience, paying for the name brand usually means better materials and tighter quality control, not just a logo. @michaeld48 says his $18 pair lasted two years, but I'd be curious what kind of use they've seen. For things you rely on every day, like tools or heavy-use gear, the cheap stuff tends to fail right when you need it most. I've seen too many budget buys warp, crack, or just wear out way faster than the pricier options.
