Pro tip: My neighbor's dog ate my entire batch of community garden tomatoes last Tuesday.

I had about 20 pounds of heirlooms ready for the food pantry. Saw the whole thing from my kitchen window. The ethical dilemma? The dog's owner is a nice older man who just got out of the hospital. Do I tell him and risk his stress, or just quietly replant? Has anyone had to balance honesty against kindness like this?

Just tell him his dog has a real taste for the fancy stuff... maybe he's a food critic in disguise. Kinda hard to be mad at a sick guy with a gourmet pet.

Balance honesty against kindness" is so tough, been there.

Yeah, @ellis.faith, it's basically a lifelong quest to not be a jerk while also not lying.
