Paid $200 for a meal subscription to save time, ended up wasting more food than ever
I signed up for HelloFresh three months ago thinking it would cut down on grocery runs and meal planning stress. Turns out I spent $200 a month on boxes that sat in the fridge while I still ordered takeout half the week. The portions were off too, so I had to supplement with extra sides from the store. On the flip side, my coworker swears by it and says it saved him from eating fast food every night. Is this service actually useful for some people, or did I just pick the wrong plan? Anyone else have mixed results with these meal kits?

You said "the portions were off" and honestly that sums up my whole problem with those kits. I tried a few different meal boxes and every time I ended up hungry an hour later, which kind of defeats the purpose. Then I'm stuck buying extra stuff anyway, so what's the point of paying for the box in the first place? Your coworker probably just has lower standards for food or really does hate cooking that bad. It's not you, it's the whole business model being a little half baked.

Dude @wade871 are we talking about the same kits though? I've tried HelloFresh and Blue Apron and honestly the portions were fine for me. Like I'm 6'2 and 200 lbs and never felt hungry after. Maybe its about what you order? The pasta ones are always huge but the salmon one is smaller so you gotta pick right. And yeah you pay more than groceries but youre also paying for not having to think about dinner or go to the store which is worth something. Some people just hate planning meals that much.

Respectfully, I think you might just be ordering the wrong meals for your appetite. Portions are totally fine if you pick the carb-heavy options like I do.
