I finally stopped giving to every charity that asks at the grocery store
I used to say yes every time the cashier asked if I wanted to round up for a cause, thinking it was the right thing to do. After tracking it for a year, I saw I gave over $200 this way without knowing where most of it went. Now I pick one local charity and give directly, and I feel that's more ethical. Anyone else get tired of the checkout guilt trip?

Totally agree with @uma_williams. It's just a PR move for them. I just say no and donate on my own terms.

Those checkout donations are just a tax write-off for the corporation, not real charity.

I felt the same checkout guilt, so I switched to a monthly donation to a local food bank.
