Can we talk about the ethical hack I used to get my smart speaker to stop recording after the wake word?
After reading the terms for my Echo Dot, I realized it saves audio clips for 3 months by default, so I went into the Alexa app and found the setting to automatically delete recordings older than 3 days, which feels like a decent middle ground for privacy versus function.

Setting it to delete after 3 days is smart. Didn't a news article say these companies use voice clips to train their AI?

Totally feel you on that. I did the same thing with my Google Home after reading how they keep that data. It's wild that the default is basically forever unless you go digging in the settings. Three days seems like more than enough for it to work right.

Yeah that news about using clips for AI training is exactly why I changed my settings. It's not just about ads, it's about them building a whole voice model with your data. The default save time is way too long for what they actually need to function. Three days is plenty for the speaker to learn your voice and commands. Anything more is just them hoarding data.
