A client told me my lash extensions were too heavy for her eyes

I had a regular client come in last month and she told me my classic lashes were making her eyes feel tired. I thought I was being careful with the weight but she said they felt heavy by midday. I talked to my mentor about it and she suggested I switch to a lighter curl and use 0.10 thickness instead of 0.15. It felt like a small change but it made a huge difference in how the lashes sit on the natural lash. Now I always check the client's natural lash health before picking the thickness. Has anyone else had to adjust their lash mapping because a client gave feedback like this?

Wait, your mentor told you to switch to 0.10 and a lighter curl? That's wild. I've been doing lashes for like 4 years and the standard is usually 0.15 for classics, 0.10 barely has any weight to it. Your client must have had super delicate natural lashes for that to be a problem. I guess it goes to show you can't just assume everyone can handle the same thickness. Props to you for actually listening and adjusting though, most people just blame the client's eyes.

@spencer_park26 makes a good point about 0.15 being the usual standard, but I think that gets thrown around too much without considering the client's actual lashes. The real question is, what are you looking for when you examine a client's natural lashes before picking a thickness? Because it's not just about how many lashes they have or how long they are, it's about the actual strength and curl pattern of each individual lash. I've had clients with gorgeous long natural lashes that still can't handle anything heavier than 0.12 because their lashes are naturally very straight and fine. The curl of the natural lash matters just as much as the thickness you choose, and I wonder how many techs are checking for that before they start mapping.

A couple things I'd push back on here spencer... 0.10 classics are actually really common for clients with finer natural lashes, it's not like some rare specialty thing. Plenty of techs use 0.12 or 0.10 as their go-to for classics depending on the client's lash cycle and growth stage. And the idea that 0.15 is "standard" gets repeated a lot but it really depends on where you trained and what region you're in. I've seen tons of lash artists who default to 0.12 for most clients and only go up to 0.15 if the natural lashes are thick and strong. Your point about curly natural lashes being stronger makes sense though, straight lashes just don't hold up the same way with heavier extensions on them.
