Tried the old trick with a zip tie on a sticky door operator... and it actually worked for once.

Old tricks are the best tricks. Seen it a hundred times in my buildings. Quick fix that buys you a week until the part comes in. Never fails to surprise people when the simple stuff works. Better than kicking the door.

Man, why is it always so shocking when the easy fix works? I usually end up making it worse before I find the zip tie. @matthewdixon is right though, it's a classic for a reason. Gives you just enough time to forget about it until the door acts up again next Tuesday.

My first year as a building super, I thought every fix needed a new part. I spent fifty bucks on a new latch assembly for a sticky door last month. Then I saw @murphy.aaron's post about the zip tie trick and tried it on a whim. It held for three weeks until the real part showed up. Changed my whole view on quick fixes.
