Hit 500 hours on a single Otis Gen2 drive unit this week

That's double the service interval, and the motor brushes still looked brand new. Has anyone else seen these newer units holding up way better than the spec sheets say?

Double the service interval is awesome! My buddy's unit is at like 450 hours and still running smooth as butter. They really built these to last.

Wait, but isn't stretching service intervals a huge risk? I've seen a few of these units fail early from sludge buildup because people followed the longer schedule. Just because it's running smooth now doesn't mean it's not wearing out faster inside. I'd rather change the oil more often and know the engine is truly protected.

Remember that old truck my grandpa never changed the oil in?

Totally get where you're coming from. It's that nagging worry in the back of your mind, right? Like you're gambling with your engine's health just to save a few bucks on oil changes. I've been burned before by pushing things too far, so now I just stick to the book schedule for my own peace of mind. It feels better knowing I'm doing everything I can to make it last.
