Scratching a trace is basically a rite of passage at this point. My first attempt looked like I tried to fix it with a paperclip and a blowtorch. Now I keep a spool of magnet wire just for these "creative modifications". Stone.lisa is right, my board looks like a silver spiderweb after a few repairs.

Oh man, scraping up a trace is the worst feeling. KeithOwens has it right with the multimeter and wire fix, my own attempts always look like a spider took up soldering after a few too many energy drinks. Pretty sure I've fixed more scratches than I've actually prevented at this point. That little wire trick is a lifesaver when you go a bit too hard with the scraper.

You remember to insulate that wire after you solder it, right? A bare wire running over other traces can easily cause a short later. A bit of hot glue or even nail polish over the repair keeps it safe.

Scratches happen. Check if the trace is actually cut with a multimeter. If it is, just run a small wire over the gap and solder it down.
