Appreciation post: Saw a guy at the Portland airport using a $20 iFixit kit to fix his laptop at the gate.

It was a simple hinge repair, but seeing someone actually fix their own stuff instead of just buying a new one gave me a little hope for the trade.

What gets me is how many people are scared to even open their own devices now. Companies make it seem like you need special tools and training, but a lot of repairs are just screws and a bit of patience. That guy probably saved himself a few hundred bucks and a week without his laptop. Makes you wonder what else we could fix if we just tried, right?

Right? My first laptop repair looked like a bomb went off. @ninaowens is onto something with that lost art stuff.
